Aha, a sequel! Since the publication of “Tilting at Windmills,” I’ve had so many people ask me “what happened next.” I suppose that’s a natural question when the end of one novel represents the beginning of a new life for some of your characters. So, I began to wonder, what did happen next? The original novel ends in the month of October, and I wanted to pick things up, if not the next day, then pretty close to it. With the holidays around the corner, it was only natural that the continuing story of Brian Duncan, Janey Sullivan, the residents of Linden Corners and of course the majestic old windmill would take place during Christmas. The story actually begins with Thanksgiving, ends with New Year’s, and in between…well, it’s a whole lot of Christmas spirit.
If you’re a new reader, please know that “A Wish Upon the Wind” can be read as a stand-alone story. Linden Corners is the kind of nice small town that welcomes people year round, so whether you’re new here or “just passing through,” get ready to dine at the Five O’ diner, to have a drink at George’s Tavern, shop at Chuck’s hardware emporium and Marla and Darla’s trading post. You’ll also go into the woods to chop down a Christmas tree with familiar friends, and get to meet new ones as Brian and Janey venture beyond Linden Corners. Ultimately, this is a story of friends, of family, of the true spirit of the holidays. I had a blast revisiting this wonderful town, and I hope you do too. And who knows, we may just come back again someday. There are other stories waiting to be told.
Return to Linden Corners for a tale that reveals the true spirit of the holidays…
For Brian Duncan, his only wish is to provide the most special Christmas ever for Janey Sullivan, the charming eight-year-old girl left in his care. For Janey Sullivan, her only wish is to find the most perfect gift for her newfound guardian. As the holiday season nears, their delicate balance is threatened over an issue of trust.
With the help of the residents of Linden Corners—and the spinning, knowing sails of the town’s landmark windmill--Brian and Janey will learn that the best gifts are not those found beneath their glittering tree but those found deep in their hearts.
Poignant, humorous, and wise, A Wish Upon the Wind is the ideal holiday story to share with loved ones during a windswept, snowy afternoon.
